FOLK ART

These are some of my favorite folk art photos, condensed from several pages of my old site. Some photos have links to entire pages on that particular environment.

The Whirligig Farm of Vollis Simpson in Lucama, NC. Two pages of photos I took are here.

Salvation Mountain in Slab City, CA. Leonard Knight's tribute to God, which he built from adobe, water (which he carried on his handlebars) and dirt. A few pages on my visit.

A corner of Facteur Cheval's Palais Ideal in France. I have an entire site on this amazing environment here.

The Mojave Desert Phone booth. My visit in 1999.

A collage of sorts of the Hundertwasser House in Vienna, Austria. The bathroom was quite memorable, "The Bathroom of Art." Complete with turnstyles and an entrance fee. Disney must have bought them out.

The doorway into Watts Towers (in Watts, CA), the most famous folk art environment in the United States. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day when I went.

A view through several doorways and windows at Bottle Village, another CA environment which was unfortunately largely destroyed by the 1994 earthquake.

Part of the interior of Watts Towers.

Another view.

Up the skirt, so to speak, of one of the towers.

A beautiful mural near the towers.

Another mural.

The ground at Bottle Village.

A marble-covered car at the Art Car Fest in San Francisco in 2001 or so. Visit the Art Cars site or the Art Car Fest site. A link to another one of my favorites, the Camera Van, by one of the movement's ringleaders, Harrod Blank.

Another view.
